CITY OF EDGEW A TER
RECREATION/CULTURAL SERVICES BOARD
APRIL 27, 2006 6:30 PM
EDGEW A TER CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM
MINUTES
ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Tom Tipton. Members present were:
Mike Visconti, Jo Hagan, Diane Trout, Kat Bearsley, and Tom Tipton. Also present was
Jack Corder, Director of Leisure Services.
APPROV AL OF MINUTES
Mr. Visconti moved to approve the minutes of the November 9, 2005 meeting and Mrs.
Bearsley seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Mrs. Hagan thanked Mr. Corder for the sign at Menard Park, recognizing the volunteers
from Edgewater Landing Garden Club, who help maintain the plants and trees at the
park. She stated she is checking into some plant signs for the beds, distinguishing the
plants and their names for public information.
NEW BUSINESS
Update on Parks
Mr. Corder stated the amphitheater roof is not completed yet because we have not yet
received the finalized plan from the company.
Also, the design for the new shuffleboard club at Rotary Park is not quite finished either.
When finished, the shuffleboard will go where the basketball court now is, and the open
field area in the west will be racquetball and basketball.
Mr. Corder stated the beautification on S.R. 442 is pretty much completed. The City
contributed $19,000.00 to this fund. He would like to set it up so residents along 442
could apply for a 50/50 grant to put trees in their yards. The City cannot plant on the
south side, due to infrastructure and right of way, therefore residents could do the
planting and maintenance of the trees in their yards. Residents would fill out an
application, including a site plan, and submit to the Board for review. The Board
discussed this idea and Mr. Visconti moved to ask Council to consider using this fund
money to form a grant for residents on private property within the city to apply for a
50/50 matching grant in targeted areas within guidelines established by the Board, by
which they would install and maintain trees planted. Mrs. Bearsley seconded the motion
and it CARRIED 5-0.
Mr. Corder stated the tennis courts have been resurfaced at Whistle Stop Park and just
reopened this week. He said we are still in the running for a FRDAP grant for Kennedy
Park. He also said he is in the process of getting prices for the restrooms and arboretum
for Hawks Park.
A Fishing Derby for kids is scheduled for June 3rd at Kennedy Park, and the recent Easter
Egg Hunt at Rotary had over 1000 kids in attendance. He also noted there will be a
carnival at Whistle Stop Park in October. It will be a three day event with 10% of the
proceeds going to a special fund for cultural events, perhaps a new Concert in the Park
senes.
MISCELLANEOUS
Mr. Visconti asked the Board to consider giving Carter's Motel & Mobile Village a
special Beautification Award for a iob well done and he so moved. Mrs. Trout seconded
the motion and it CARRIED 5-0.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Mrs. Trout moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Visconti.
