MINUTES
ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER
The Chairman, Tom Tipton called the June 8, 2000 meeting to order. Members present
were Shirley Pittman, Michael Tanksley and Tom Tipton. Also present was Adelaide
Carter, liaison of the Economic Development Board and Jack Corder, Director of Parks
and RecreationlMaintenance. Present from the public was Jo Hagan, Diane Trout and
David Turner.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Tanksley moved to approve the minutes of the May 11,2000 meeting and Mrs.
Pittman seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 3-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Review of Applications
Mr. Tipton stated there were applications to review and three individuals to be
interviewed for the three openings we now have on the Board. Member terms being
replaced are Maurice Remillard, James McGinnis and Shirley Pittman, her resignation
being effective July 1, 2000. After review ofthe applications and a short interview with
the three applicants present, Mrs. Pittman moved to send a memo to Council,
recommending Jo Hagan, Diane Trout and David Turner as new members to the
Recreation/Cultural Services Board. Mr. Tanksley seconded the motion and it
CARRIED 3-0.
Update on Proiects
Mr. Corder stated the YMCA is now under roof and there is glass in the windows.
Inside the HV AC system, electrical and sprinkler system are being installed. Dry wall is
being hung, things are progressing nicely.
He stated they broke ground last Monday for the skateboard facility at Whistle Stop Park.
He said some of the work is being done in-house, preparing for the contractor. He said
he hopes completion for this project to be about six weeks.
He noted the permit application for the beautification of the south medians has been
submitted to D.G.T., awaiting approval. He also stated the budget has been completed
and there are reviews coming in the next few days. He said he asked for funds to do five

medians in the new budget year, those being the two medians north of Park Avenue, the
two north of Turgot Avenue and the last one south of Turgot Avenue.
Jo Hagan and Diane Trout presented their ideas for Whistle Stop Park for beautification.
Plants they chose included liriope, hawthorne, cord grass, oleanders and lantana. They
chose native plants and looked to add some color as well. The Board wholly approved
the concept they chose and urged Mr. Corder to implement these ideas as soon as time,
funds and manpower allowed within the five year plan for the parks.
NEW BUSINESS
June Beautification Award
The Board voted on the homes for the June beautification award and the winning address
was 3117 Needle Palm Drive. Members submitted their selections for a business award,
to be voted on in July.
Beautification Ad Hoc Committee Report
There was no report for this month, as Mr. Visconti was on vacation up north.
Historical Ad Hoc Committee Report
Mr. Tanksley stated he is setting up a book of archival records, which he will keep
current for the committee. He feels Council needs some sort of report to keep informed
on historical issues and they will activate something once actual digs are started in the
city of Edgewater. He stated they met with Lynne Plaskett and the City Manager and
Jack Corder and this meeting and their ideas and plans were well received. Mr. Hooper
agreed to work closely with them and Council to ensure the committee is on the right
track. Mr. Tanksley stated he was concerned about the historical ordinance and the Land
Development Codes which some issues are not being received well. Mr. Corder stated
the first reading for the Land Development Code went through, which included the
ordinance set up for the historical preservation. He stated the controversial issue of the
boats and trailers was taken out and the rest of the code was voted on. After the second
reading in July, he stated the City should have their very first historical preservation
ordinance.

There being no further business, Mr. Tanksley moved to adjourn, seconded by Mrs.
Pittman.
