10-23-1984 - Special u Q CITY COUNCIL OF EDGEWATER SPECIAL MEETING OCTOBER 23,1984 MINUTES Mayor Ledbetter called the Special Meeting to order at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers in City Ha 11 . ROLL CALL Mayor David Ledbetter Councilman Melbourne Wargo Councilwoman Gigi Bennington Councilman Neil Asting Present Present Present Present Councilman Jack Spencer City Attorney Josel Alvarez City Clerk Connie Kinsey Pol ice Chief Douglas Betts Arrived Later Excused Present Arrived Later Mayor Ledbetter stated that the purpose of the meeting was to certify the counting of the absentee ballots for the primary election. Councilman Wargo moved to recess the meeting. Councilwoman Bennington seconded the motion. Meeting was recessed at 7:05 PM. Mayor Ledbetter called the recessed meeting back to order at 8:50 PM in the Community Center. ROLL CALL Mayor David Ledbetter Councilman Melbourne Wargo Councilwoman Gigi Bennington Councilman Neil Asting Present Present Present Present Councilman Jack Spencer City Attorney Josel Alvarez City Clerk Connie Kinsey Pol ice Chief Douglas Betts Present Excused Present Arrived Later Also present were Mrs. Susan Wadsworth, Deputy City Clerk, and the election clerks, Mrs. JoAnne Sikes and Mr. Robert Matetich, Sr. Mrs. Sikes and Mr. Matetich checked the absentee ballot envelopes and found five with discrepancies. Councilman Spencer moved that the Council reject these as disqual ified absentee ballots on the basis that four of the voters failed to check off the reason and one failed to sign it. Councilman Asting seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0. There were then forty-five ballots opened. Mrs. Sikes read the votes from the absentee ballots. Deputy City Clerk Wadsworth read the totals by name: Baugh - 29; Christy - 7; Ledbetter - 9; Muller - 11; Rotundo - 18; Wargo - 14; Asting - 14; Opal - 13; Wilbur - 18; Inman - 18; Richardson - 23; and Turano - 3. Mayor Ledbetter suggested a motion to accept the absentee ballots count and Councilman Spencer so moved. Councilman Asting seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0.
