07-14-1986 - Special o Q CITY COUNCIL OF EDGEWATER SPECIAL MEETING JULY 14, 1986 MINUTES Mayor Baugh called the meeting to order at 3:00 P.M. in the Community Center. He stated the purpose of the meeting was for the recommendation on the bids for the soil cement/culverts. ROLL CALL Mayor Earl Baugh Councilman Louis Rotundo Councilman Russell Prater Councilman Neil Asting Present Present Present Present Councilman James Inman City Attorney Jose'Alvarez City Clerk Connie Martinez Chief Lawrence Schumaker Present Excused Present Present Also present was Mr. Earl Copeland, Public Works Superintendent. Mayor Baugh stated they received the recommendation from the City Engineer and he's recommending they accept Halifax Paving, Inc. in the amount of $260,762.40 for the soil cement and culverts. He asked for Council's comments and questions. Councilman Rotundo asked Mr. Copeland if the price seems reasonable per foot and Mr. Copeland replied that he thinks so, considering this included piping two of the ditches with double 60" concrete piping. City Clerk Martinez pointed out it includes $10,000 to $15,000 of shell also. There was a discussion as to who would purchase the shell and who would haul it. Councilman Asting pointed out this figure is soil cement base being put down and shell being hauled in and bought and ditches being put in. He added that Mr. Ferrara had talked with Halifax Paving that morning and confirmed that they can start the work the week of July 28th. Councilman Rotundo asked if this cost includes the men on the job and Mr. Copeland replied yes, plus Mr. Ferrara will have one. City Clerk Martinez pointed out it only covers the men from Halifax. Councilman Asting stated that they do a good job. Mr. Copeland said that he or Mike Tenney will be available at all times. Councilman Rotundo said he thinks it will be worth it and Mr. Copeland agreed. City Clerk Martinez stated that Gerry Ferrara has been very thorough on this project and it's to be monitored. Councilman Prater asked if this firm has done any paving in Edgewater and Mr. Copeland replied they did some short streets, and resurfacing. Mr. Copeland added they come in and do the work and get out. Mayor Baugh pointed out they do a lot of work in Daytona Beach and do big jobs. Councilman Asting moved to award the bid to Halifax Paving, Inc. in the amount of $260,762.40. Councilman Prater seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0. Mayor Baugh requested a motion to adjourn. Councilman Inman seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned at 3:04 P.M.
