Also present was Mr. Earl Copeland, Public Works Superintendent.
Mayor Baugh stated they received the recommendation from the City Engineer and
he's recommending they accept Halifax Paving, Inc. in the amount of $260,762.40
for the soil cement and culverts. He asked for Council's comments and questions.
Councilman Rotundo asked Mr. Copeland if the price seems reasonable per foot
and Mr. Copeland replied that he thinks so, considering this included piping two
of the ditches with double 60" concrete piping. City Clerk Martinez pointed out
it includes $10,000 to $15,000 of shell also. There was a discussion as to who
would purchase the shell and who would haul it. Councilman Asting pointed out
this figure is soil cement base being put down and shell being hauled in and
bought and ditches being put in. He added that Mr. Ferrara had talked with
Halifax Paving that morning and confirmed that they can start the work the week
of July 28th.
Councilman Rotundo asked if this cost includes the men on the job and Mr. Copeland
replied yes, plus Mr. Ferrara will have one. City Clerk Martinez pointed out it
only covers the men from Halifax. Councilman Asting stated that they do a good job.
Mr. Copeland said that he or Mike Tenney will be available at all times.
Councilman Rotundo said he thinks it will be worth it and Mr. Copeland agreed.
City Clerk Martinez stated that Gerry Ferrara has been very thorough on this
project and it's to be monitored.
Councilman Prater asked if this firm has done any paving in Edgewater and Mr.
Copeland replied they did some short streets, and resurfacing. Mr. Copeland
added they come in and do the work and get out. Mayor Baugh pointed out they
do a lot of work in Daytona Beach and do big jobs.
Councilman Asting moved to award the bid to Halifax Paving, Inc. in the amount
of $260,762.40. Councilman Prater seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0.
Mayor Baugh requested a motion to adjourn. Councilman Inman seconded the motion.
Meeting was adjourned at 3:04 P.M.
