CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER
SPECIAL MEETING HELD
October 26, 1977
Mayor Armstrong called the Special Meeting of the City Council of the
City of Edgewater to order at 4:00 P.M. October 26, 1977 in the
Community Center. .

Mayor Armstrong said that in accordance with the election laws of the
City of Edgewater, the City Council meets at 4:00 P.M. with the Election
Board for the purpose of certification from the City Clerk of the absentee
ballots and to canvas and include same the results of the Primary Election
held October 25, 1977.
The City Clerk read a certification of the absentee ballots received from
the list of registered voters.
Mayor Armstrong called a recess of the meeting so that the Election Board
could report the final figure on the election, including the absentee ballots.
Mayor Armstrong reconvened the meeting and read

City Attorney Judson Woods read Resolution No. 741:
A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE RESULTS OF A PRIMARY ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY
OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA ON OCTOBER 25, 1977 TO ASCERTAIN
THE NOMINEES TO BE VOTED UPON FOR MAYOR, AND COUNCILMAN FROM ZONE 1 AND
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM ZONE 3 IN THE NOVEMBER 8, 1977 GENERAL ELECTION.
Councilwoman Webber made a motion that the Resolution be adopted. Councilman
Shell seconded the motion.

Section 6 of the Resolution declared Walter B. Sikes to be the candidate
receiving the largest number of votes in said primary election and was
the candidate receiving more than fifty (50%) percent of the votes cast
and in accordance with Section 19.1 of the Code Of Ordances of the City of
Edgewater, Florida was declared to be the duly elected Councilman for
Zone 3.
Mayor Armstrong said there had been some dispute concerning what the 50%
was taken from. He .asked the City Attorney what figure the 50% came from.
The City Attorney said that the figure came from the number of votes cast
for that Zone.
Upon roll call Resolution 741 was CARRIED 4-0..
Mayor Armstrong expressed his appreciation to the Election Board.
Councilwoman Webber also added her appreciation for the fine way the election
was handled.
Councilman Shell said that the Election Board had done a very good job.
Coucilman Sikes said that he was grateful for the support he received and
that we have always had good Election Boards He added that Edgewater was
a good place to live and regardless who gets elected we should all work together to
make it an even better place.
Mayor Armstrong also commended the City employees and the Police Department
The City Clerk announced that the next Election School will be held at
10:00 A.M. on the Monday before the regular election, . 'November 7,1977
Councilwoman Webber made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Councilman Shell
seconded the motion.
The meeting was adjourned.
