03-18-2004 - Community Block ~ ,...., COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PUBLIC HEARING MARCH 18, 2004 2:00 PM EDGEWATER COMMUNITY CENTER Lynne Plaskett, Grant Administrator opened the Public Hearing on the CDBG funds and explained what these funds are, the amounts, and what they can be used for within the City ofEdgewater's target area. Members of the public who attended were: Vernon Rump, Glenn Barnhill and Don Schmidt. Mr. Rump stated he would like to see these funds used for the resurfacing of streets in the Shangri La Subdivision, which are deteriorating badly after being resurfaced in 1993. Mr. Barnhill said he would be interested in seeing Riverside Drive resurfaced. He said the road is cracking and the manhole covers are protruding more, and the asphalt is deteriorating. He also expressed concern about the potholes and the sidewalks being so close to the roadway in spots, that a vehicle could hit the pot hole and advertently strike a pedestrian. Mr. Schmidt stated he is familiar with both of the situations expressed by Mr. Rump and Mr. Barnhill and he wholeheartedly agrees with both gentlemen. He said these are two areas within the city which need some repairs and he would like to see this funding cover these. Mr. Rump said over a five year planning period he would like to see some improvements made to the drainage/stormwater area in Shangri La. Ms. Plaskett stated the Master Plan for Stormwater has not been completed yet and this will be addressed at that time. Mr. Rump said he would like the streets to be milled prior to the resurfacing. Mr. Barnhill said if Riverside Drive is resurfaced and smoothed out, it will likely cause more speeding in the area, and suggested a roundabout, or some method of slowing down vehicles. Ms. Plaskett stated this will be looked into. There were no further comments and the public hearing was closed.
