reject all bids received on the backhoe due to the fact that
the trade-in allowances for the diesel bulldozer were not up
to expectations or the true value for that piece of machinery.
Councilman Shell seconded the motion. Upon roll call the motion
CARRIED 4-0.
Councilman Dietz made a motion that the Council instruct the
City Clerk to readvertise for bids for"a backhoe using the
specifications that we had listed before and the bids to be
back by 4:00 P.M. on June 12, 1978. The ad will state that

an order to the Water Department to extend the water line on
Orange Tree Drive to 30th Street and install a fire plug so
in case we have a fire out there we would have water.
Councilman Shell said that Webster Construction has asked to
be paid back for three culverts that they say are not needed.
In March, we installed three culverts for Webster on Royal
Palm and they never did pay for those.
The City Clerk reminded the Council that they can discuss
different subjects but that they could not take action on them
at this Special Meeting,
Councilman Rotundo asked Mr. Shell if the mechanic in the
Street Department was a CETA man.
Councilman Shell said that the mechanics were not CETA employees.
Councilman Rotundo said that he wants the Council to discuss
at their next regular meeting the hiring of a mechanic through
CETA to take care of all Fire and Police Department vehicles.
Councilman Shell said that the Street Department had two
mechanics now.
Mayor Christy said that we also had no job slot for that
position.
Councilman Dietz said that there seemed to be a lot of repair
work necessary on some of the Police cars. It might be a good
idea to order new cars rather than continually having to repair
these older ones. It also might be less expensive to get
the cars on a lease-buy basis. We seem to be throwing good
money after bad.
Councilman Shell made a motion that the Council adjourn the
meeting. Councilman Rotundo seconded the motion. The meeting
was adjourned.
