Mayor Christy called the workshop to order at 8:30 P.M. in City Hall.
There were representatives present from Prudential, Crown, Time Life,
and Lib e r t y N a t ion a 1 ._//
The City Clerk said that Nancy had filled out a comparison chart
for all the insurance proposals and then he and the Police Chief
had sat down together and analyzed these proposals across the board.
They decided that the Prudential policy was the best policy for
the City.
Copies of this spread~sheet were passed out to the insurance
representatives present at the workshop.
Mr. Wharton continued by pointing out that the number of employees
is 54 and there are 19 dependants with insurance. There are some
small differences in cost. There is more of a difference in the
extensive care section and the number of days maximum benefits.
In these cases, Prudential offers a better deal. We are, of course,
already in a hospitalization insurance program with Prudential
and we should consider the work involved in changing over to another
company unless there was a substantial savings to the City in
another policy.
Councilman Asting said that it appears that .Prudential does offer
more coverage but is that much coverage necessary?
Mr. Wharton said that this coverage would be more beneficial, if
anyone were to get into that type of medical situation.
Councilman Sikes asked if the difference between a quote on 65
employees and the actual number of employees would make a difference
in the cost. He was speaking primarily of Liberty National.
Mr. Riggs, Liberty National representative, said that there would
not be that much difference in cost. The Prudential quote is of
course the actual cost since they are presently serving the City.
We are all quoting on the same thing.
The Council questioned the various representatives about certain
benefits listed under the different proposals.
Mr. Ascherl, Prudential representative, pointed out that Prudential
is one of the few companies that works on a direct claims basis.
There is no employee within the City's personnel that does a lot
of work relating to claims because Prudential deals directly with
the employee.
Councilman Sikes said that we might have a problem with Time, Life
since the proposals were turned in by two agents.

Mr. Watkins, representing Time Life said that the two agents
would share the work involved, if the Council decided on that
policy.
The Council continued discussing the proposals and asked
questions of the representatives there at the meeting.
Mayor Christy thanked the insurance representatives who attended
the meeting and said that the Council would probably make
a decision at the next Council meeting.
