APPROVAL OF MINUTES - None at this time. 3. PRESENTATIONS a. S.T.E.M Certification / Program at Edgewater Public Elementary Mr. Reaves, Principal of Edgewater Public School (EPS), gave a presentation on the ST.E.M. program used EPS. During his presentation he discussed key points that are essential key aspects of the program: * Pre -K thru 5th grade all participate in the S.T.E.M. program * Every Wednesday is S.T.E.M. day * Use of thinking maps * IC3 Certified * AgriScience * Hands on learning with technology * Community involvement * Conversational Advisory (ask, add, or challenge) * Only Elementary school in TVolusia County with an Agriculture program, with a barn, chicken coops, and solar panels being installed for the students to learn * Introduction to computer class * STEM days are the highest attended school days of the week, with the lowest behavioral issues Member Berner questioned if there were plans for follow through to the middle school. Mr. Reaves responded, absolutely, tracking is done currently through the High School, and last year they tracked the Science Fair, previous students of EPS won 1/3 of the categories, which three of the students went on to state. Member Selman asked iflndian River Elementary was involved with the program. Member Bair added, it's great to see the critical thinking skills being used by the students from the program. Member Snow stated she would love for the board to schedule a learning walk at EPS. 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS Councilwoman Power, 406N. Riverside Drive, welcomed Clarence McCloud and Craig Bair to the Economic Development Advisory Board; stated to the board that they have the City Councils support and as a whole are doing a great job. Bob Andrejkovics, 3311 Admiralty Court, welcomed both new members to the board, and thanked all for everything they do. 5. REPORTS a. Planning and Zoning Board Paul Wright, 403 Portside Lane, nothing new to report at this time, all has been quiet and slow for this summer. b. SEVCC Sue Williams discussed, welcoming new members; involvement between the Chamber and .Teff Reaves from Edgewater Public with STEM Program; upcoming Hob Nob on September 21, 2016, at the Brannon Center; still working duel enrollment on manufacturing program; home based business fair was a success; business after hours will be on August 10, 2016 at the Atlantic Center for the Arts; County Council meeting; new website coming to the SEVCC; and Young Professionals Group first meeting is August 8th, 2016 at Outriggers from S p. m. - 7: 00 p. m. c. City Manager/ Economic Development/ Redevelopment Coordinator Samantha Bishop discussed: City Council approved an easement agreement with Edgewater Industrial Park to extend multi -use trail; awarded contract for Parktowne; Northwest Lineman College; Business and Focus article which was free and is a very useful economic development tool; Brownfields Grant, three year grant, $500,000, which has to be used by September 30, and we will have used every penny by the deadline; Back to School was on August 6, 2016, over 500 back packs that were given away, 10 bikes were raffled off, and the YMCA opened the pool free for everyone; Back Yard BBQ is on September 17th; Edgewater Expo will be March 25, 2017; and CRA just approved upcoming year budget with about $40, 000. Ms. Bishop also discussed, Southeast Volusia Marketing Initiative, City Council approved Resolution working with New Smyrna Beach and Oak Hill to promote Southeast Volusia as one harmonious economic development region; mission statement has been developed committee members; and review of the S W O.T. Analysis. City of Edgewater Page 2 Printed on 12/29/2016 Economic Development Board Meeting Minutes August 10, 2016 Board members and staff discussed, was there a way that Brighthouse could bring in enhanced services while they are in transition to fiber optics; if SEV marketing initiative will become priority over Edgewater's C.E.D.S. projects; and feedbackfrom site selectors. Member Beck left at 9:02 a.m. 6. CONTINUED BUSINESS Ms. Bishop discussed next steps for the SEV Marketing Initive, solutions for utilities; determining criteria for potential businesses; identifying "our" uniqueness; and gather intel from prospects. Chair Jamison and staff discussed, previous prospects fell through based on lack of shovel ready land and time to rezone locations; and S. W.O.T. is a work in process, feedback is highly appreciated. 7. NEW BUSINESS a. AR -2016-1962 Review applications for one board vacancy. A motion was made by member Zeller, second by member Beck, to reappoint Cecil (Chip) Selman to the Economic Development Advisory Board. The MOTION was APPROVED by the following vote: Yes: 7- Bliss Jamison, Oscar Zeller, Donna Snow, Cecil Selman, Brandon Beck, Clarence McCloud, and Craig Bair Excused: 1 - Marcia Barnett 8. BOARD REPORTS Member Bair stated the SEV Marketing Initive is a great plan and looking forward to helping Edgewater grow. Member Snow welcomed Clarence McCloud and Craig Bair to the board. Member Zeller commended Samantha on doing a greatjob. Member McCloud stated, looking forward to working with the board; and Daytona State South campus has completed phase 2 of 2, by adding all new technology. Member Selman welcomed the new board members. Chair Jamison discussed, park Ave widening is moving forward, and projected ground breaking in 12 months and completion to be 12 months from ground breaking. 9.
