12-12-1979 - Special/Workshop ... - ~"\ i \...~ CJ <.J CITY OF EDGEWATER CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING and WORKSHOP December 12, 1979 Mayor Christy called the Special Meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. in City Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to consider applicants for the position of City Planner. ROLL CALL Mayor Robert H. Christy Councilman Louis J. Rotundo Councilman David C. Ledbetter Councilman William B. Glaser Councilman Neil J. Asting City Attorney Judson Woods City Clerk Joseph Herget Police Chief Earl Baugh Present Present Present Present Present Present Present Present (arrived late) The Council interviewed Miss Danielle Bern for the position of City Planner. Miss Bern has a BS degree in Social Sciences and Housing from Florida State University and a Master in Urban Planning from Texas A&M. The Council interviewed Mr. Patrick Hurley for the position of City Planner. Mr. Hurley has a BA in Urban Studies and Geography from the University of Pittsburgh. He also indicated that he had some experience in urban development planning and the writing of grant requests. The Council discussed the two applicants. Councilman Asting made a motion that the Council appoint Mr. Hurley as City Planner with an annual salary of $11,000. Councilman Rotundo seconded the motion. Upon roll call the motion CARRIED 5-0. Mr. Hurley indicated that he would be able to start work as soon as he could take care of some personal matters in Tampa and make arrangements for a place to live in this area. He will contact the City Clerk when he has a definite starting date for the position in Edgewater. Mayor Christy recessed the Special Meeting to go into the workshop portion of the meeting. The Council discussed the Sign Ordinance as presented by the City Attorney. They compared the Sign Ordinance with suggested changes sent to the Council by the Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Realtors. Some revisions were made. The Council also discussed the Storm Water Management Ordinance. The City Attorney will check into similar ordinances from other cities and also review the sample ordinance sent by the County. Mayor Christy said that he hoped the new City Planner would be able to help in draftjng up this ordinance. Mayor Christy reconvened the Special Meeting. The Council authorized the City Attorney to make the revisions and changes to the Sign Ordinance that were discussed at the workshop. Councilman Ledbetter made a motion to adjourn the Special Meeting. Councilman Asting seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned.
