A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGE -
WATER, FLORIDA, ENDORSING THE PROPOSED ONE CENT SALES
TAX; REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, a one cent sales tax needs to be passed to pro-
vide funds to meet the capital improvement needs of governmental
units in the Volusia area; and
WHEREAS, the one cent sales tax will provide for needed
parks and recreation, public safety, street, and other
improvements; and
WHEREAS, without the required capital improvements, the
quality of life in the Volusia area will be reduced; and
WHEREAS, tourists will have to pay their fair share of the
sales tax, thereby reducing the cost to permanent residents; and
WHEREAS, surveys have been conducted indicating that citi-
zens would prefer a one cent sales tax to an increase in property
taxes; and
WHEREAS, savings achieved through cooperative services
will not be sufficient to make the one cent sales tax unneces-
sary; and
WHEREAS, based on the 53%-47% formula presented at the
Sales Tax Workshop on Monday, May 14, 1990, municipalities would
receive a larger share of the funds than under the State formula.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Edgewater
hereby endorses the proposed one cent sales tax to be voted on
the 6th day of November, 1990.
SECTION 2. That this resolution be spread upon the min-
utes of this meeting and copies be provided to the news media
serving the Volusia area and to the County Council.
SECTION 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions
in conflict herewith, be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. That this resolution shall take effect immedi-
ately upon its adoption by the City Council of the City of Edge-
water, Florida, and approval as provided by law.

This Resolution was introduced and sponsored by Councilman
Hatfield , and was read and passed by a vote of the City Coun-
cil of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a regular meet-
ing of said Council held on the 18th day of June ,
1990, and approved as provided by law.
