A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING THE DAYTONA BEACH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
IN THEIR EFFORTS TO DEFEAT STANDBY CONSERVATION
PLAN #1; REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HERE-
WITH AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, it has been proposed that the United States Department of
Energy institute emergency weekend gasoline sales rationing by causing
gasoline service stations to be closed from Friday noon until midnight
Sunday, said proposal being designated Standby Conservation Plan #I; and
WHEREAS, the economic analysis prepared by the United States Depart-
ment of Energy estimates a loss in revenues for a variety of industries
dependent on weekend travel totalling $9, 290, 000, 000 should their proposed
weekend gas restriction plan be implemented; and
WHEREAS, the loss of this business will necessitate a cutback in employ-
ment for those industries totalling in the hundreds of thousands of dollars;
and
WHEREAS, the vast majority of our citizens depend on tourism for
employment and the resulting sales revenue is a major tax source; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Plan #1 as outlined above would be catastrophic
for Volusia County as well as for other counties where tourism is a major
segment of the economy;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That the City of Edgewater unanimously supports the Daytona
Beach Chamber of Commerce in their efforts to defeat Standby Conservation
Plan #1.
SECTION 2. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions and all ordinances
or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby
repealed.

SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption by the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, and
approval as provided by law.
The first reading of the Resolution was read in full and passed by a
vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a regular
meeting of said Council held on the 366( day of �� h ; ( 1979,
and approved as provided by law.
