79-R-89RESOLUTION NO. / j- s�9 ��(AA/i//////�� A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE VOLUSIA COUNTY COUNCI o,o TO CONSTRUCT A BICYCLE PATH ACROSS THE GABORDY �® CANAL AT PALMETTO STREET, BETWEEN THE CITIES OF EDGEWATER AND NEW SMYRNA BEACH; REPEALING ALL RESO- LUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of Edgewater and the City Commission of New Smyrna Beach met in a joint meeting and determined that there is a great public need for a bicycle path across the Gabordy Canal, where Palmetto Street terminates, and WHEREAS, many school children live in the area west of United States Highway #1, or U.S. 1, and a bicycle path at this area will greatly reduce the children's risk of injury by eliminating the need for the children to travel on US 1, and WHEREAS, the City Council of Edgewater and the City Commission of New Smyrna Beach support a bicycle path at this location for safety. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. That the Volusia County Council is hereby requested to construct a bicycle path across the Gabordy Canal at Palmetto Street. SECTION 2. That both the Mayor of Edgewater and the Mayor of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, will deliver a copy of this Resolution to the Volusia County Council requesting that this matter be placed on the Councy Council Agenda for consideration. SECTION 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, and approval as provided by law.
