RESOLUTION NO. 86-R-52
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING ITS OPPOSITION TO
THE LEGALIZATION OF CASINO GAMBLING IN THE STATE
OF FLORIDA, REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, there are efforts currently underway to place before
voters in the fall of 1986 a constitutional amendment to allow casino gambling
in the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, casinos attract and legitimize organized crime and
cause an escalation of street crime; and
WHEREAS, casinos deteriorate the quality of life and prey on
those whocan least afford it; and
WHEREAS, casinos place an unbearable and expensive burden on
governmentservices and are costly to regulate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida,
hereby expresses its opposition to the legalization of Casino Gambling in the
State of Florida.
SECTION 2. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict
herewith be and the same are repealed.
SECTION 3. That this resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its adoption by the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a
regular meeting of said Council held on the 3rd day of
November , 1986, and approved as provided by law.
This Resolution was introduced and sponsored by Councilman
Prater , and was read and passed by the City Council of the City
of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meetingof said Council
