A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EDGEWATER, FLORIDA PROVIDING FOR THE CREATION OF
A BOUNDARY LINE BETWEEN THE CITY OF EDGEWATER AND
THE CITY OF NEW SMYRNA BEACH FOR PLANNING PURPOSES;
PROVIDING THAT THE CITY MANAGER AND/OR MAYORS OF
EDGEWATER AND NEW SMYRNA BEACH BE AUTHORIZED TO
MAKE SUCH FORMAL AGREEMENTS ON BEHALF OF THE RES-
PECTIVE CITIES AS MAY BE NECESSARY TO CARRY OUT
THE INTENT OF THIS RESOLUTION; REPEALING ALL RESO-
LUTIONS IN CONFLICT AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Cities of Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach are growing
rapidly, and
WHEREAS, both Cities recognize that orderly growth requires effec-
tive long-range planning based on agreement of projected growth limits,
and
WHEREAS, representatives of both cities have met together and
have considered such agreement,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGE -
WATER, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. For future planning purposes, the future boundary
line between the two cities shall be the prolongation of that segment
of the east -west corporate boundary line between the Cities of Edgewater
and New Smyrna Beach, more particularly defined as the center of the
Gabordy Canal. This line will begin at the west bank of the North Indian
River and extend indefinitely in a westerly direction to the ultimate
western boundaries of both cities.
SECTION 2. Variations in this boundary line resulting from
property ownership, subdivision boundaries or similar considerations
will be consistent with the intent of this Resolution.
SECTION 3. The City Manager and/or Mayors of the cities shall
be, and are, authorized to make such formal agreements on behalf of the
cities as are required to carry out the intent of this Resolution.
SECTION 4. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption
of a similar Resolution by the City Commission of New Smyrna Beach,
Florida.
SECTION 5. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in
conflict herewith be and the same are hereby rescinded. ���
The first reading of the Resolution was read in full and passed
by a vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a
Regular meeting of said Council held on the DI day of January, 1980,
and approved as provided by law.
