656' C ( 1 4k ORDINANCE NO. 656 AN ORDINANCE PROMULGATING AND SETTING FORTH A SICK LEAVE POLICY FOR FULL TIME EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA; DEFINING FULL TIME CITY EMPLOYEES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; SETTING FORTH AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. That all full time employees of the City of Edgewater, Florida shall be allowed with pay the follow- ing number of days as and for sick leave: (a) No sick leave with pay shall be allowed any employee during the first six (6) months employment. (b) At the expiration of six months employment with the City of Edgewater, a full time employee will accrue one (1) day sick leave for each month of employment not to exceed a maximum of twelve (12) days; provided further however, that the city shall not be required to pay any employee for sick leave unless and until said employee has presented to the City Clerk a certificate by a duly licensed physician stating that said employee was in fact sick or disabled on the days claimed. SECTION 2. That six months from the date of employ- ment by the city shall be construed as the commencement date for the accural of sick leave time and sick leave time shall be calculated upon that basis. SECTION 3. A full time employee of the City of Edgewater, Florida shall be defined as one who works an average minimum of thirty-two (32) hours per week. No part-time employee or independent contractor or contract laborer shall be entitled to any paid sick leave whatso- ever by the City of Edgewater, Florida. SECTION 4. No full time employee shall be allowed to accumulate more than twelve (12) days of sick leave at any time; provided however, that should an employee reIV - DATE BYE— �' quire more than twelve day's sick leave during any one year said employee shall be allowed to apply to the City Council for a temporary leave of absence from said employment without pay, and allowance of said temporary leave of absence shall be at the sole discretion of the City Council. In the event a temporary leave of absence is allowed, the city shall be obligated to pay only medical insurance premiums and workman's compensation premiums for that particular employee on policies carried by the city. Nothing in this section shall be construed so as to prevent any employee during a temporary leave of absence from receiving any proceeds from medical insurance and/or workman's compensation. k SECTION5. No full time employee as defined herein shall be allowed sick leave during any vacation period of said employee. SECTION 6. That all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby rescinded. SECTION 7. That this Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the City Council and approval by the Mayor. The above Ordinance was read in full and passed by vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 16th day of March A.D., 1970. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the requirement of reading said Ordinance upon second read- ing was waived and the Ordinance was ordered put upon final passage.
