AN ORDINANCE SETTING FORTH A VACATION
POLICY AND SCHEDULE FOR FULL TIME
EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA; EXEMPTING
MEMBERS OF THE EDGEWATER POLICE
DEPARTMENT FROM THE PROVISIONS
THEREOF; AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE THEREFOR.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That full time employees of the City of
Edgewater, Florida shall receive paid vacation leave based
on the following periods of employment with said City:

SECTION 2. That for the purpose of calculating
accrued
apprAxed vacation time, the date of employment by the City
shall be the date the employee begins his employment and
on each year's anniversary date thereafter said employee
shall. be deemed to have worked a full year. No employee
shall be entitled to vacation time without having first
completed a full year's employment, except that the City
Council shall have the right to make exceptions thereto
if said employee has substantially completed a full
year's employment.
SECTION 3. A full time city employee shall be defined
as an employee working an average minimum of thirty-two
(32) hours per week for the City of Edgewater, Florida.
SECTION 4. All vacation leaves must be used during
the year immediately following the anniversary date for
which vacation time has accrued or else said employee shall
lose the vacation time to which said employee would normally
have been entitled. No city employee shall be paid for any
vacation unless said employee actually uses said leave as
vacation leave from his or her employment y the City of
Edgewater, Florida. Any employee desiring to take a vacation
leave must first clear said vacation per At tl0iifi hdepart-

ment head and obtain permission of the department head
prior to taking said vacation. Any sickness during
the employee's vacation period may not be charged to
sick leave.
SECTION 5. Any full time employee of the City of
Edgewater, Florida who quits prior to accruing vacation
time shall not be entitled to any vacation pay as sever-
ance pay, or otherwise
SECTION 6. Upon the termination of employment of
any full time employee by the City of Edgewater, said
employee shall be due as severance pay any accrued
vacation time.
SECTION 7. A part-time employee of the City of
Edgewater and a contract laborer and an independent con-
tractor shall not be entitled to any paid vacation leave
whatsoever. A part-time employee shall be defined as
an employee working less than an average of thirty-two
(32) hours per week for the City of Edgewater. A contract
laborer or independent contractor is defined as a person
for whom the city shall not be liable for the providing
of workman's compensation and for whom withholding tax
and social security tax is not withheld from monies due
said contract laborer or independent contractor.
SECTION S. That this Ordinance shall have no
applicability to the Chief of Police of the City of
Edgewater, or any patrolman of the Police Department of
the City of Edgewater.
SECTION 9. That all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances
in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 10. That this Ordinance shall take effect
immediately upon its adoption by the City Council and
approval by the Mayor.

vote of the City Council of the City of EdgewaiO , Florida
at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 2nd day

Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the
requirement of reading said Ordinance upon second
reading was waived and the Ordinance was ordered put upon
final passage.
Passed by vote of the City Council of the City of
Edgewater, Florida at a regular meeting of said Council
held on the 2nd day of March, 1970 and approved as
provided by law; the vote of said Council being as
follows:
