651ORDINANCE NO. 651
AN ORDINANCE PROMULGATING AND
SETTING FORTH A VACATION SCHEDULE
AND POLICY FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA;
SETTING FORTH OFFICIAL HOLIDAYS FOR
SAID POLICE DEPARTMENT; AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That all full time regular police
officers for the City of Edgewater, Florida shall be
entitled to twelve (12) paid vacation days per year after
said police officer has been employed as a regular full
time policeman by the City for one (1) year.
No police officer shall be entitled to any vaca-
tion period unless and until said policeman has completed
the full required full year's duty as a full time police-
man, except that the City Council may make exception
upon just cause.
A full time patrolman or police officer for the
City of Edgewater, Florida shall be defined as one who
works an average minimum of forty-eight (48) hours per
week during the year.
That for the purpose of calculating accrued
vacation time, the date of employment by the city shall
be the date the police officer begins his employment.
All vacation leaves must be used during the year
immediately following the anniversary date for which
vacation time has accrued or else said police officer
shall lose the vacation time to which he would normally
have been entitled. No police officer shall be paid
for any vacation unless he actually uses said leave as
a vacation leave from his employment by the City of
Edgewater, Florida. Any patrolman desiring to take
vacation leave must first clear said vacation period
with the Chief of Police and obtain his permission
prior to taking said vacation. Any sickness during
the police officer's vacation period may not be charged
to sick leave.
Any police officer who quits prior to accruing
vacation time shall not be entitled to any vacation
pay as severance pay, or otherwise.
Upon the termination of employment of any police
officer by the City of Edgewater, said employee shall be
due as severance pay any accrued vacation time.
SECTION 2. That so far as the Police Department
of the City of Edgewater, Florida is concerned, there
shall be five (5) official holidays recognized by the
City of Edgewater, for said policemen: New Year's Day,
4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
In the event any policeman is required to work on any
of the above designated holidays, said policeman shall be
entitled to take another day off in lieu of that particular
holiday he had to work, or, he shall have the option of
working during the said official holiday and receiving
double pay for that day.
SECTION 3. That all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances
in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. That this Ordinance shall take effect
immediately upon its adoption by the City Council and
approval by the Mayor.
The above Ordinance was read in full and passed by
vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida
at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 2nd day
of March A.D., 1970.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the
requirement of reading said Ordinance upon second reading
was waived and the Ordinance was ordered put upon final
passage.
