AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 145
OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,FLORIDA HERETO-
FORE ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EDGEWATER, ON THE 11TH DAY OF
FEBRUARY, A.D., 1981, BY STRIKING FROM
SAID ORDINANCE SECTIONS TWO, (2), THREE
(3) AND SIX (6), AND PROVIDING IN SAID
AMENDED ORDINANCE FOR THREE CLASSES OF ELEC-
THICIANS; MASTER ELECTRICIANS; JOURNEYMAN
ELECTRICIANS; AND MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIANS;
PROVIDING EXAMINATION FEES FOR EACH CLASS;
DESIGNATING CHIEF BUILDING OFFICIAL AS CHIEF
EXAMINER OF MASTER ELECTRICIANS, JOURNEYMAN
ELECTRICIANS, AND MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIANS;
AND PROVIDING THE TIME AND METHOD OF GIVING
EXAMINATIONS FOR MASTER ELECTRICIANS, JOURNEY-
MAN ELECTRICIANS, AND MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIANS;
PROVIDING COMITY BETWEEN MUNICIPALITIES AND
CITIES USING SIMILAR TESTS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA:
That Ordinance No. 145 of the City of Edgewater, Florida
heretofore adopted by the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida, on the 11th day of February, A.D., 1957, be and the
same is hereby amended as follows, to -wit:
Section 1: (No amendment thereof and set forth herein
for reference) The terms, Master Electrician, Journeyman Elec-
trician and Maintenance Electrician, are defined as follows:
(a) The term Master Electrician as used in this Ordinar
shall be held to mean a person who possesses the necesse
qualifications and supervises the installation of elec-
trical wiring, apparatus or equipment for light, heat,
power or advertising as covered by the terms and pro-
visions of this ordinance.
(b) The term Journeyman Electrician as used in this
Ordinance shall be held to mean a person who possesses
the necessary qualifications, training and technical
knowledge to install electrical wiring, apparatus or
equipment for light, heat, power or advertising as cover
by the terms and provisions of ti s Ordinance under the
supervision of a licensed Masser Electrician.
(c) The term Maintenance Electrician as used in this
Ordinance shall be held to mean a person who possesses
the qualifications herein before prescribed for a Journe
man Electrician and who is regularly employed to maintai.

apparatus and equipment installed, contained and used
upon or in the buildings or premises owned or occupied

Section 2: Chief Building Official designated Chief
of Examiners - Meetings.
(a) There is hereby appointed and designated a Chief of
Examiners of Master Electricians, Journeyman Electricians and
Maintenance Electricians; said Chief of Examiners shall be the
Chief Building Official of the City of Edgewater, Florida.
(b) Said Chief of Examiners of Master Electricians,
Journeyman Electricians and Maintenance Electricians shall conduct
regular examinations on the fourth Monday in the months of January
April, July and October of each year. Special examinations may be
called at any time by the Chief of Examiners upon the request of
the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida.
Section 3: Examination of Applicants
(a) The Chief of Examiners of Master Electricians,
Journeyman Electricians and Maintenance Electricians shall examine
all applicants desiring to work at the trade or business of Master
Electricians, Journeyman Electricians and Maintenance Electricians
as set forth and defined in Section One (1) above in the City of
Edgewater, Florida.
(b) Applicants for the examinations hereinafter pro-
vided for shall be made to the Chief Building Official in writing
on forms to be established and furnished by him and shall be
accompanied by an application fee of $50.00 for Master
Electricians; $50.00 for Journeyman Electricians; and
$50.00 for Maintenance Electricians.
(c) Each applicant shall submit to an examination in
writing which shall be prepared and graded by the Building
Department, General Extension Division, University of Florida,
to test the qualifications of the applicant to perform the duties
and work of Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, and
Maintenance Electrician, to be pert( '-e `, iip �ih City,

construction in the City of Edgewater, Florida.
(d) Regular examinations for all classes of electrician
as above set forth shall be held on the fourth Monday in the month
of January, April, July and October of each year.
(e) Special Examinations may be authorized at any time
by the Chief of Examiners upon the request of the City Council of
the City of Edgewater, Florida, provided application therefor is
made and the applicant deposits with said application fee together
with all costs to be incurred by the City in the giving and grad-
ing of such special examination.
(f) All applications for any examination must be filed
with the Chief Building official not less than two weeks prior to
the date of the examination.
(g) Applicant shall be required to answer correctly a
minimum of seventy-five (75%) per cent of the questions in the
examination to pass such examination. When applicants have passed
such examination and if satisfied with the competency of such
applicants, the said Chief of Examiners shall thereupon issue
certificates of competency to such who have passed said examinatio ,
which certificates shall show that such applicants are qualified
to apply for such licenses as may be required and to engage in or
work at the business of Master Electrician, Journeyman Electricia ,
or Maintenance Electrician, depending upon which of these examina-
tions the applicant took.
Section 4: (No amendment thereof and set forth herein
for reference) Any person violating any provision of this Ordi-
nance shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than 30 days
or fined not more than $50.00, or both, in the discretion of the
Municipal Judge. Each day's violation of this ordinance shall be
a separate offense.
Section 5: (No amendment twrepi'.anderth herein
for reference) Nothing in this Ordinance shall be held to cons
or repeal the occupational license fee heretofore set for Elec-
trical Contractors for $25.00 per year plus $10.00 per year for
their certificate of competency.
Section 6: License granted without examination to
certain persons - All persons now holding occupational license as
Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, and Maintenance
Electrician, in the City of Edgewater, Florida, shall be issued a
certificate of competency as a Master Electrician, Journeyman
Electrician, or Maintenance Electrician, depending upon which
license said applicant now holds, which shall be considered as a
renewal of certificate of competency. Any person who has at any
time subsequent to January 1, 1962, held a Master Electrician
Occupational License, Journeyman Electrician Occupational License,
and Maintenance Electrician Occupational License, in the City and
who now is in the Armed Forces on may hereafter become a member of
the Armed Forces and whose occupational license was valid and in
effect at the time he entered the Armed Forces, shall, if applica-
tion is made within six months after his being discharged from the
Armed Forces, be granted a Certificate of Competency as a Master
Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, or Maintenance Electrician,
depending upon which of the occupational license such applicant
held, as a;_renewal of certificate of competency upon payment of
the occupational license fee.
Section 7: Engaging in Business, Prerequisites. It
shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation not holding
a certificate of competency as hereinabove provided, and an
occupational license as a Master Electrician, Journeyman Elec-
trician, or Maintenance Electrician, to work at oe", `g in or

to engage in any kind of electrical work hereinabove described
and set forth under the Master Electrician Requirement, It shall
also be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation holding a
certificate of competency as a Maintenance Electrician to engage
in any kind of electrical work hereinabove described and set for
under the Master Electrician Requirement and the Journeyman
Electrician Requirement.
Section 8: Comity - In those cities and municipalities
which use similar grading tests as provided by the General Exten-
sion Division, University of Florida, all licensed Master Elec-
tricians, Journeyman Electricians, and Maintenance Electricians,
in such cities and municipalities shall be granted the privilege
to engage in the business of Master Electrician, Journeyman Elec-
trician or Maintenance Electrician, in the City of Edgewater,
Florida, according to the license held by such person, or corpora-
tion, by paying the City of Edgewater, Florida, an occupational
license fee according to the occupational ordinances of the City
of Edgewater, Florida, without examination; provided, however, tha'..
such cities and municipalities recognize the license of electrician
licensed to do business in the City of Edgewater, Florida, and
such individuals or corporations to do business in such cities or
municipalities upon the payment of an occupational license fee on]
Section 9: Annual Occupational License Fee - The annual
occupational license fee for Master Electricians shall be #10.00,
Journeyman Electricians, $5.00, and Maintenance Electricians, $5.0
Section 10: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
Section 11: That this ordinance shall take effect
immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayo_,
