AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL
CODE OF RULES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE NATIONAL
BOARD OF FIRE UNDERWRITERS FOR THE INSTALLATION
OF ELECTRIC WIRING AND APPARATUS AND PROVIDING
THE PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THE;iEOF AND
FURTHER PROVIDING INSPECTION FEES.
BE ITENACTEDBY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: All electrical construction, all material and all
appliances used in connection with electrical. work and the
operation of electrical apparatus in the City of Edgewater,
Florida shall be in conformity to the rules and regulations
set down in what is known as the National Electrical Code of
Rules and Requirements of the National Board of Fire Underwriters
for the Installation of Wiring and Apparatus as the same are now
extablished or as the same may hereafter be established from time
to time, and the said rules and regulations are hereby adopted and
approved and made a part of this ordinance.
SECTION 2: There shall be charged and collecped by the City Clerk
fees for all electrical wiring and fixture installation for light-
ing, small appliances, and electric motors of 1/4 F.P. or less,
at the following rates:
1. NEW OR REP',ODELING RESIDENCES and duplexes, One Dollar and
fifty cents ($1.50) per room or bath.
2. NEW OR REP'iODELING APARTMENTS rooming houses, and hotels,
One Dollar and forty cents (�1.40) per room or bath.
3. REWIRING OLD RESIDENCES, apartments rooming houses, and
hotels, One Dollar and sixty cents 41.60) per room or bath.
(Basement, furnace rooms, unclosed or screened porch,
corridors, and garages shall each be figured as 1/2 room,
dinettes, dining alcoves and dining space shall be considered
as one (1) room, when separated in any way from any other
room. Electric range shall be considered a separate in-
stallation. Electric water heater shall be considered a
separate installation.
4. BUSINESS, offices, theatres and public building, fifty cents
(50¢) per 100 square feet of all available floor space.
5. EXTRAS, Addition to wiring system, each outlet with fixture,
switch or receptacle, twenty cents (20¢).
6. MOTORS. For each electrical motor of one-half (1/2) horse
or less, fifty cents (50¢); each electrical moto
half (1/2) horse -power and not over five (5) hors w.r, 0{p4,'e' �:✓
Dollar ($1.00); for each electrical motor of overwe5,� f+orse-
power, One Dollar and fifty cents ($1.50); for eac "High
Potential" motor) operating at a potential of over qq50 vow �"
(regardless of horse -power), Three Dollars (43.00pgqATE
7. TRANSFORMERS. For each transformer where the primal exce
230 volts, One Dollar (41.00). *,
$. ALL COOKING AND HEATING DEVISES. For each permanently
connected electrical cooker or heating devise consuming
more than 600 watts of energy, One Dollar ($$1.00).
9. ALL SIGNS. Fee for erecting and installing, including
inside neon signs, and fee for erecting all other signs,
electric or non -electric, shall be One Dollar ($l.GO
for the first six (6) square feet; all over that size,
twenty-five dents (25¢) a square foot, with a maximum
fee of Fifteen Dollars ($15.00).
10. NEON SIGNS. Same as above, with additional charge of
fifty cents (5W) for each transformer, (including
decorative gas filled tubing). Border lighting, strip
lighting, or outline gas filled tubing shall be One
Dollar Iy1.00) for each 20 feet or fraction thereof plus
fifty cents (504) for each transformer. Strip lighting,
outline lighting, lighting using border or streamers, in-
candescent lamps shall be five cents (50) per socket.
11. NO PERMITS shall be issued for fee of less than One
Dollar (41.00).
SECTION 3: Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the
provisions of this ordinance shall upon conviction be punished by
a fine not exceeding One Hundred Dollars (4100.00) or by imprison-
ment not exceeding sixty days (60) or by both such fine and im-
prisonment in the discretion of the Municipal Judge.
SECTIOid 4: Should any part of this Ordinance be held invalid for
any reason, all other remaining parts shall be held valid. The
invalidity of any word, phrase, clause or section shall not in-
validate the entire Ordinance
SECTION 5: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in con-
flict herewith be, and the same are, hereby repealed.
SECTION 6: This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon
its passage and approval by the Jiayor.
The above ordinance was read in full and passed by the vote
of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a
regular meeting held on the ,2-V day of ..i •✓ , A. D. 1957.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the requirement
of reading said ordinance upon second reading was waived, and the
ordinance was ordered put upon final passage.
