A PROCLAMATION PROVIDING FOR THE CALLING AND
HOLDING OF A SPECIAL ELECTION AND A PRIMARY
ELECTION, IF NECESSARY, IN THE CITY OF
EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO ELECT
A MAYOR AND A COUNCILMAN.
WHEREAS, Earl L. Tingle, resigned as Mayor of the City of Edgewater,
Florida at a regular meeting held on March 6, 1967, and
WHEREAS, the City Council did on that date accept said resignation
of the said Earl L. Tingle, as Mayor, and
WHEREAS, the office of Mayor of the City of Edgewater, Florida is
now vacant, and
WHEREAS, W. H. Cairnie resigned as Councilman from Zone 2 of the
City of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meeting held on March 20,
1967, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edgewater did on that date
accept the said resignation of the said W. H. Cairnie as Councilman,
and
WHEREAS, the office of Councilman from Zone 2 of the City of
Edgewater, Florida is now vacant, and
WHEREAS, the city charter of the City of Edgewater, Florida requires
that a special election be held to fill the unexpired term of Mayor
and of Councilmen of the City of Edgewater, Florida.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA-
Section 1. That Tuesday, May 16, 1967, be and the same is hereby
fixed as Special Election Day in the City of Edgewater, Florida
for the purpose of holding an election to elect a Mayor and a
Councilman from Zone 2 to serve on the governing body of the City
of Edgewater, Florida, for the balance of the present unexpired
terms of Mayor and Councilman ending November 8, 1967, and a special
election is hereby called for the 16th day of May 1967.
Section 2. In compliance with the charter of the City of Edgewater,
Florida, a primary election will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 1967
in the event that more than two candidates qualify for the office
of Mayor or in the event that more than two candidates qualify
for the office of councilman from Zone 2. If more than two candidates
qualify for the office of Mayor or for the office of councilman,
then the two candidates receiving the greatest number of votes in
the primary election to be held May 2, 1967 shall have their names
printed on the ballot as candidates in the Special City Election to
be held on May 16, 1967.
Section 3. That all petitions of candidates for the office of Mayor
and all petitions of candidates for the office of Councilman shall
be filed with the City Clerk at the Edgewater City Hall not later
than 4 o'clock P.M. on Friday, March 31, 1967.
Section 4. That in the event no more than two persons are nominated
by petition for the office of Mayor, then the said candidates must
file their acceptance to such candidacy together with their
affidavits to the effect that they are qualified to vote at such
election, with the City Clerk at Edgewater City Hall not later
than 4 o'clock P.M. of Monday, May 1, 1967, but in the event that
more than two candidates for the office of Mayor are nominated by
petition, so that a primary election becomes necessary, then and
in that event, the said candidates must file their acceptance of
candidacy, together with their affidavits to the effect that they
are qualified to vote at such election with the City Clerk at
Edgewater City Hall no later than 4 o'clock P.M. on Monday, April
17, 1967.
Section 5. That initheLeVent-.no more than:two persons are nominated
by petition for the office of Councilman, then the said candidates
must file their acceptance to such candidacy, together with their
affidavits to the effect that they are qualified to vote at such
election, with the City Clerk at Edgewater City Hall not later than
4 o'clock P.M. of Monday, May 1, 1967, but in the event that more
than two candidates for the office of Councilman are nominated by
petition, so that a primary election becomes necessary, then and
in that event, the said candidates must file their acceptance of
candidacy, together with their affidavits to the effect that they
are qualified to vote at such election, with the City Clerk at
Edgewater City Hall no later than 4 o'clock P.M. on Monday,
April 17, 1967.
Section 6. That the registration books of said city shall be kept
open according to the general election laws of the State of Florida.
Section 7. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to
forthwith post two copies -of the notice of said election or elections
in two of the most conspicuous and public places in the City of
Edgewater, Florida, one of which shall be the bulletin board in
the City Hall of said city. Said notices shall be posted not less
than thirty days prior to the said election or elections.
Section S. Said election or elections shall be held at the
community center in the City of Edgewater, Florida.
Section 9. A certified copy of this proclamation shall be sent
by the City Clerk to the Supervisor of Registration, Volusia County,
Florida.
The above and foregoing proclamation was introduced at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida held
on March 20, 1967, said proclamation being introduced by Councilman
