486RESOLUTION NO. 486 A RESOLUTION URGING THE VOLUSIA COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO INTRODUCE OR PRESS FOR PASSAGE OF A BILL FOR THE PURPOSE OF CALLING FOR A STATE-WIDE REFERENDUM TO AMEND ARTICLE V OF THE FLORIDA CONSTITUTION SO AS TO DELETE THE PROVISION IN SAID ARTICLE V ABOLISHING MUNICIPAL.aY6' COURTS AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, feels that Municipal Courts serve a vital function in maintaining law and order within municipalities, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, feels that the trial of offenders of municipal ordinances should be conducted within the municipality by the municipality, and WHEREAS, it is felt by the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, that the assumption of the functions of the Municipal Courts by the County Courts isllnworkable, unwieldy and costly; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED SY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. The Volusia County Legislative Delegation is hereby urged to introduce legislation or press for legislation calling a State-wide Referendum to be held for the purpose of amending Article V of the Florida Constitution so as to repeal that provision abolishing Municipal Courts. SECTION 2, The City Clerk of the City of Edgewater, Florida, be and is hereby authorized to mail a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Delegation. SECTION 3. That a representative of the City of Edgewater, Florida be authorized to present this Resolution to the Volusia County Legislative Delegation at its next regularly scheduled meeting held in Edgewater, Florida. SECTION 4. That all Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby rescinded. SECTION 5. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the City Council and approval by the Mayor. SECTION 6.
