589ARESOLUTION NO. 589q A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CRIMINAL JUSTICE CENTER ON PROPERTIES OWNED BY DAYTONA BEACH COMMUNITY COL- LEGE, REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. WHEREAS, Daytona Beach Community College has provided educ Bt16A !j+i and training in law enforcement for the last decade, and WHEREAS, during the aforementioned time, law enforcement agencies throughout the Daytona Beach Community College service area have been provided service by the Community College, and WHEREAS, the law enforcement program now know❑ as the Criminal Justice Program provides both the Associate in Science and Associate in Arts degrees and is fully transferrable to the State's four year colleges and universities, and WHEREAS, Daytona Beach Community College is the certified training center for Volusia and Flagler Counties and offers the 320 hour basic training program, the 80 hour auxiliary course, the 40 hour refresher course, the 80 hour intermediate course, the 40 hour advanced course, the 80 hour supervisory course, and the 80 hour middle management course, and WHEREAS, these courses could be offered to a greater advantage in a criminal justice academy, and WHEREAS, an off -campus setting would more suit a quasi -military atmosphere with its attendant discipline desirable for such training, and WHEREAS, an off -campus criminal justice center could include a fire arms range, driving pad, dormitory facilities, and related facilities critical to law enforcement training, and WHEREAS, the Community College and its service area and the surrounding areas will provide sufficient students to fully justify such a facility, and sp9 O �7) WHEREAS, additional courses in the area of career development for criminal justice personnel could easily be added to the curricula, and WHEREAS, Daytona Beach Gommunity College, with the support of the sundry governments of this area, will qualify for funds under Chapter 943 of the Florida Statutes, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDOEWATER,FLORIDA: SECTION 1. That the City of Edgewater supports fully the estab- lishment of a Criminal Justice Center on properties owned by Daytona Beach Community College. SECTION 2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to appropriate State and Regional agencies setting forth our willingness to cooperate in the establishment of a training center or academy. SECTION 3. That allsResolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the City Council and approval by the Mayor.
