A. NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF SITE (Use back of page and
continuations)
This site was identified during the shoreline survey. The site is composed
of two small (25 to 40 meters in diameter) "shell Islands ". The islands lies
within the Indian River slat marsh. Shell recovered indicates 95% clam in a
10YR2/1 matrix. Midden estends to at least 95 cm below surface. Scattered shell
and dense shell midden is present. St. Johns Plain ceramics were recovered; however,
no one was found. Site is relatively undistrurbed and appears extraction of
clam was predominant activity. Site now in preserved state not undergoing
current development; if development occurs, Phase Il-investigations must occur.

B. DISCUSSION OF SIGNIFICANCE (Use back of page and
continuations)
The shell midden extends to 95 cm below surface and appears to go even deeper.
Shell recovered consistes of approximately 95% clam and 5% oyster. St. Johns period
ceramics were recovered. Site must undergo Phase II testing if development is threatening.
